Sy Brand

To Grow in All Directions

At 12 I forgot how to lie / about ghosts,
the same way a statue / becomes its own
stone, or light / turns to carousel overnight.
I refuse to find / my place to stand / still—a grave
should be terminal—I will / be in many eyes
at once, like a dance / made fingerprint, carousel
turning back to light / and shining through your walls.
