Eleanore Tisch

Language at Large

It is never about what you think
it will be. It is never about

when you need it most, never
about the blue before sunrise

uncapturable on camera. The blue
in the eye of the beloved. Blue

of unoxygenated throb, of infinite
ephemeral, of barn swallow wing,

of bruise below the belly. It is
never about you. It is never about

thinking it will be. I miss you, blue
raspberry tongue and wagging

your wrist in my direction. I miss
you, blueberry emoji and bubble

gum. I miss you, Muddy Waters
in the living room. The sun in

descent. Yellow once and you
follow through orange, red, purple,

blue, years ago. It is never about
one day. Never about what we

carefully say. It’s about time
imprinting on a cyanotype

on a cataclysmic axis
on the rest of us.

I miss you making me
immaculate
in the image of you.
