D A Angelo
Troublemakers
The pigeons on the patio are plotting
minor acts of criminality. Beady eyed
hooligans flapping against the cold charging
into the garden like a drunk student
in a shopping trolley. They eye the mallard
ducks with suspicion, remarking under
their breath that the female is a model
of Victorian austerity. All policewoman
and governess. The males are Ziggy
Stardust in full exuberance, undercover
cops aiming to pull off one last deal
before retirement. The pigeons are flashing
bits of metal in their beaks, its tinkling in their coos.
The pigeons on the patio are plotting
minor acts of criminality, staring at me
like a test of loyalty, like I'm a taxidermied fox
that could easily come undone. Something
they could easily do.
